Our Lower Colorado River cleanup took place this past Saturday, and was a good first step, with many more to come. Folks from all over Austin (and Texas) participated, including Austin Sunshine Camps, Austin Swimming Association, Austin Area Paddlers meetup group, and MOC Kayaks. We even had folks come in from Houston and Dallas to help. The stretch from Longhorn Dam down to the Montopolis/Hwy. 183 bridge gets a lot of use, and very little love!
It was cold, overcast, and drizzly, a sharp contrast to the days leading up to Saturday. I don’t think the youths from the “Sunshine Camp” were really prepared for what lay ahead (like getting wet, being cold, etc.) but they persevered!
At the end of the day, we had made a small dent. It was great to see all the folks pitch in, and a big “THANKS” goes out to everyone!
