The bass were feeling amorous last Tuesday, when Dan and I hit Lady Bird Lake. We put in at the Holiday Inn ramp, and headed upstream to Barton Creek. We were looking for largemouth bass on “beds” and we were not disappointed. LMB’s begin their mating ritual when water temps hit 60 degrees or so, and a quick check with a thermometer read about 68. Barton Creek is spring fed and crystal clear, most times. The water temperature stays pretty constant, and it is warmer than the main lake body in the winter. PRIME TIME!
We rigged 1/4 ounce skirted jig heads with “ZOOM Swimmin’ Chunk’s” in black/blue and it was on! Using oars, we were able to hold the “Towee” Rivermaster in position with ease. We would pick out a “bed” and drop the baits straight down on it. Some times the take was almost immediate, and other times required moving the bait around until we found the “sweet spot” Either way, it worked! Stay tuned, as the bite should only get better!
